Stephen Tidmore > Madrid, Spain - April 21, 2003 - A young man is knocked over by a bull, while still holding his drink as he takes part in a capea outside of Madrid, Spain. A capea is an amateur bullfight with young bulls and often takes place as part of a large party. After eating and drinking, the bullfight takes place and anyone is welcome to jump into the arena.

Stephen Tidmore > Santiago de Compostela, Spain - April 15, 2003 - Semana Santa Procession in Santiago de Compostela , Spain. As with the rest of Spain, Semana Santa, (Easter Week or Holy Week) is celebrated with impressive processions and is the most important celebration in Spain.

Semana Santa takes place the week leading up to the Easter weekend and consists of processions in which enormous 'pasos' (floats) are carried around the streets by teams of 'costaleros' (bearers) followed by hundreds of 'nazarenos' (penitents).

Throughout the city thousands of people line the streets waiting to catch a glimpse of the processions as they wind there way to the streets towards the cathedral.

One can be forgiven for believing the Ku Klux Klan and the Semana Santa parades were borne of the same idea, since the costumes of both are practically identical. Despite this, there appears to be no connection whatsoever between the two, although the Nazarenos came first. The Ku Klux Klan used their costumes for disguise, for the Christian connotations and perhaps the fact they were usually white had a racial significance. Although there is the possibility that there were members of the Klan who had witnessed Semana Santa parades and took their inspiration from these, there is no defined link.

Eeyore's Birthday Party is a day-long festival that has taken place annually in Austin since 1963. It includes live music, food and drink vending which benefit local non-profit organizations, attendees in colorful and strange costumes, and very large drum circles. Although frequented by children and families, Eeyore's Birthday Party is also a favorite event for Austin's hippie subculture. The festival is named in honor of Eeyore, a character in A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

The Masai Mara (also spelled Maasai Mara) is a large park reserve in south-western Kenya, which is effectively the northern continuation of the Serengeti National Park game reserve in Tanzania. Named for the Maasai people (the traditional inhabitants of the area) and the Mara River, which divides it, it is famous for its exceptional population of game and the annual migration of zebra and wildebeest from the Serengeti every July and August, a migration so immense it is called the Great Migration.

Stephen Tidmore > Heart Butte, Montana - August 12, 2006 - A fancy dancer at the Heart Butte Indian Days Celebration in Heart Butte, Montana. This annual four day celebration takes place the second week in August and is 26 miles south of Browning in the community of Heart Butte on the Blackfeet Reservation.

Men's Fancy dance is flashy and colorful, but also highly energetic. It requires strength and stamina and is usually performed by younger men and boys. Male Fancy dancers typically wear brightly-colored regalia. Twin feather bustles are one of the hallmarks of modern fancy dance regalia, along with a beaded bodice, leggings, bells just below the knees, moccasins, and other feathered or beaded accouterments. The regalia often has a fringe of many colors, said to represent the Rainbow Spirit.

A modern pow-wow is an event where both Native American and non-Native American people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor American Indian culture. There is generally a dancing competition, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow-wows vary in length from one day session of 5 to 6 hours to three days. Major pow-wows or pow-wows called for a special occasion can be up to one week long.

It is famous for its western cowboy flare motif, complete with a large collection of western memorabilia, unique knobbled pine architecture, cowboy murals, animal mounts, and genuine saddle barstools. Many popular country stars have performed at the bar over the years, including Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Jr., Asleep at the Wheel, Hoyt Axton, Glen Campbell, Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson, Commander Cody and the James Cotton Blues Band.
